Harry Potter and the Traitors Within. By Darklordpotter (Midknight on the forums)

Heir of Slytherin! Dark! Independent! Powerful! Azkaban! Harry

Suggested rating is for ages 16, due to graphic violence, language, and mild sexual behavior.

This is a “dark-independent” Harry story, with Voldemort and Dumbledore trying to sway him back to their respective sides. I’ve only read one independent story so far, and it was so riddled with unbelievable stuff, so much OOC and WAY out of canon things it really had no right to be named Harry Potter. Harry’s ships in this fic will be Tonks/Bellatrix/Patil twins/Ginny. Don’t worry, it’ll make sense when you read it, and he won’t be a man-slut )

My aim of this story is bringing up a lot of the questions raised in the books. If you read correctly, there are a lot of unanswered questions. For those of you that need a refresher on some of the more obvious ones, read http, more specifically, http/ The Lexicon is a fount of information for any fan fiction reader OR write, and is a excellent source of reading material to boot.

(Except for Harry/Bellatrix, I started writing that after reading a favorite ‘ship post on a link a fellow author gave me!)

I will be using a few, very few of some of the tired old plot points everyone else in the world seems to use, but don’t worry, a majority of the time I’ll be poking fun at them! (I include this because I’ve helped several large author’s with their story, and it never amazes me how fast some reviews scream PLAGERISM if you include a situation even remotely close to something another author wrote. Trust me guys, having Dobby wind up as Harry’s house-elf seems like commonsense, not plagiarizing one of the hundreds of authors that have used that idea P)

Sit back and enjoy folks, because I’ve got so many twists and turns in this story it’ll make your heads spin. Just remember one thing, CONSTANT VIGILANCE! Almost nothing in this story is how it appears at first. I’m trying to stick to canon for the most part, but if some of my people seem OOC, or I get something you have trouble believing, call it Au-ish if it makes you happy )

A/n to alen - Thank you for giving me my first review on this site. I'm VERY happy to hear you say that about a political relationship ) You've hit the nail on the head for one thing I'll be doing around chapter 20.

The story picks up and this is actually the first huge start of it, and is labled as suspense. Which means there will be ALOT of plot building. The story does pick up, but having to set the tone for a few things was important. I've posted this story on another fiction board, where I've gotten rave reviews for each chapter, and over 1800 views. I'm currently in the process of chopping it down to manageable sized chapters, and reediting and rewriting larger portions of it, so please just trust me and stick through some of the lengthy explanations and you'll be suprised what's coming. I do understand the first chapter was a bit long on backstory, but it really is very, very important.

Earendil'sgirl - There will be some siding with each. But trust me when I say independent I don't mean just from Dumbles. This is not a Super! Harry fic, but he's going to have the resources to screw both Dumbles and Voldie over big time, he's jut going to ride the middle for a bit getting ready to take them both on.

Sky - Bottom line, Harry is going to make Bella his.. well let me put it like this... payback sucks. Harry will not be with them all at once, and not nessacarily in the lovey dovey sort of way alot of fics are presented here. Harry IS going darkish, keep that in mind.

Harry and the Patil twins are based off a remark made on the msg board, about never seeing a Patil twin fic. I'm filling in that gap just to see if I can do it. If anyone wants to see the challenge that spawns this fic please check out my Bio.

This chapter is long on an explanation for a certain event. Pay attention to it, it winds up being a major issue later on!

FlameofShadows - Thank you, lol. I know it's bumming me out as well. I'm trying not to take it personal, as from personal experience, I set the search engine to start filtering out stories that are less then 40K words whenever I go looking for a story, for the simple fact I hate to get attached to a 15K word story a author abandons (. I'm going to try to plop up another 20Kish words this weekend or so, try to get it above what most ppl I imagine would look for.

Dark-Syaoran - Hermione won't turn. I can't stand her, period. Look for her to have a rather interesting problem later on in the story. Ron I loathe. I grew up with a set of friends that were similar to Harry and Ron, one dirty rich, one filthy poor. The poor guy sat there and stewed in his jealousy for years, and stabbed the rich friend in the back first good chance he got. That is who Ron is to me, and in my opinion JKR's foreshadowed it.

The person in Harry's mind was Merlin, I debated trying to leave it very vague, or even making it Mordred in his head, and having Mordred twist Harry dark, but I came up with a better way to work it in, using Excalibur. Watch the various things the sword does, or Harry's interactions with it for a hint.

Ginny.. well I got nothing personally against her, but I cannot stand how almost every author here writes H/G stories where Harry suddenly realizes his love for her overnight, and becomes Super!Harry from his love for her. She'll have a place in this story, and is even one of the 'ships for awhile, but not in a way most would ever imagine.

Moody does indeed hate dark wizards, but he's a step shy from dark himself I imagine, because he fights fire with fire. It wouldn't take much for him to turn, given the correct circumstances. Not to mention... He doesn't HAVE to know he's turned dark now does he

And I have to admit, you caught onto a huge issue in this story without realizing it )

Sky - I'll go ahead and say that Harry will make Bella his bitch. There will be no lovey dovey. Bella being all cuddly and loving goes against everything we've read about the character, having her totally change her character at the base level like so many Hellatrix fics do, totally kills her believability. Harry goes dark, but not evil evil. It has taints of evil to him but it'll be explained and dealt with in a good way.

Enigma, become the riddle - Aye, back story has historically been the weakest link in almost ANY of these fan fics posted here. I aim to be one of the exceptions. I may drag on in some parts, but pay very close attention to things I go into detail about, I will twist the way I wrote it originally into something no one would expect, unless they've caught the small foreshadowing hints I have dropped. Romance will be included, but in a very odd way.

Mark Turnlach - Naw, Fudgey doesn't care about things like self-defense. He tries to hang Harry out every chance he gets. Harry will not go to Azkaban for defending himself.

skittles-07 - I don't abandon stories ) I've got about the next 10 chapters at least written out in a way. I take ideas out of a mountain's worth of notes now, that have been written starting with the day Book 4 came out, and I craft the dialogue from that. The sheer amount of twists and deception I'm weaving is giving me insane trouble writing, lol.

Sky - It's always eaten at me when ppl dismiss Harry surviving simply b/c of his mother. Mothers would of had to of died for their children at least once in the history of that curse. I'm going much more in depth I'll go about it, there will be more, including how Voldie was able to survive for the 11ish years as a wraith.

Fudge.. well lets just say you'll be foaming at the mouth over Mr. Fudgey in about 2 more chapters.

Dark-Syaoran - Life debts. I agree it seems right when the two of them talk.. for now at any rate. Most people write Voldie as a homicidal maniac, beyond insane with blood lust. I try to write him more as he'd have to be in order to survive and build such a following and power: Sane, powerful, intelligent, manipulative. Anyone who can say the EXACT same thing does NOT apply to Dumbledore as well are the insane ones. (I've gotten bashed in a few private messages about I better not make Dumbles manipulative or else.. lol) The Snape bit with Lupin is pure foreshadowing. Hermione's parents will be very glossed over, but she won't go dark. She's too much of a thinker/follower to go dark. Ginny and getting a quick poke.. hmm lets just say she's gonna get screwed and not sexually and leave it at that.

powerofadarkqueen - Don't worry it is a Azkaban story, but if you follow anything I've written in reviewer responses, I REFUSE! to be cliched to all hell and back, so the story will not follow the same format as damned near all other Azkaban stories of :

-Story starts, Harry's crying about Sirius

-Harry suddenly and unexplainably gets tossed in jail, being betrayed by everyone in the world out of the blue, totally written fast and crappily

-Harry gets Godlike powers overnight, either stays at Azkaban b/c he's scared of leaving, or busts out after being in there a very short time.

-Harry starts whining again about everything despite being God.

And after that is all finished we are left reading chapter 3, of a 15K word story with a horrid amount of typos and plot holes.

I'm huge on the build up, and twists. And I'm going to SLAM overused cliches while doing it (while actually using a few of them myself i think, lol)

As for Snape.. I cannot stand the way most Fanfic authors AND JKR have written him. I can't reveal too much, but let me put it this way, what I'm doing with Snape will suprise the hell out of most people, the man is too smart to stay where he is atm. There HAS GOT to be more to the man who is as brilliant as he is, then just some stupid older man who has issues letting go of his childhood.

-Anyone who takes offense to responses to reviews at the top of chapters, please don't. I reveal more of the basics behind the story in the comments, and if a astute reviewer happens to notice a major plot twist, or something I'm planning on doing I'll mention it in a certain way, I plan on having all the basic cards out for the end game by the middle of the story, and if you can read all the foreshadowing hints, you'll be ahead of the pack!

MysterioX: Dumbles will be present very soon, I just had alot of character building to do to my er.. character, lol. What do we know of Harry really in 5 books? What do we really know of anyone else? JKR has created a nice world, but it really only holds up when you take it at face value, and don't look too deep. I intend to build multiple persona's that make the whole world come alive, instead of madly rushing into things, then suddenly stopping and slowing down to the point of near madness, (Like alot of FF and the canon books do, book 5 bored the hell out of alot of ppl I know)

John - Make no doubt about it, Voldie is indeed a nut, but I'm having him spin his tale to get Harry on his side, or at least, not hostile to him. Remember not to take everything I write as canon for my story, because I'm running deception upon lies, upon fabrication. I'm going for shock value, but for that I've gotta make you guys believe in certain things ) And don't worry it won't be a slow descent into darkness.. but when you see what I'm doing with him, (you should have a good guess by the time he leaves after um.. confronting Fudge) It'll make perfect sense for him to act the way he does

I've went back and revised my earlier chapters, cutting out some repetitive speech, slimmed down a few explanations, and merged a few chapters. I'll never understand why I get stupid questions like why aren't my chapters 8K+ words longand then further down the page they complain of too much dialogueI direct you to my thread on our website when I reply to a few reviewers about length and speed. I'm adding a NOT FOR ATTENTION DEFICIET DISORDER disclaimer I think, b/c if you are one of those people who want the whole story done in 50K words, this ain't one for you, sorry.

This story will be AU I guess, since the release of that... "THING" Half Blood Prince. I shouldn't have any spoilers in here from that, simply because I refuse to use that... that.. "thing" ug. Doesn't bother me much, as I never planned on making this "Year Six" so much as just using year 5 as a jump off point.

I think I've come to conclusion to take advice given to me, and to tell those that don't like the speed of this fic to bugger off and not vent here about it again... I enjoy constructive criticism, and I do think I put too much weight on BS stories getting mad reviews while mine was starving for them. The fact that some people do indeed like Harry + Draco + thong underwear is indeed enough of a point to me to give up on pleasing everyone. Thank you Sir Chris and Lokidar

-The speed of it will pick up dramatically, but these first initial chapters had to draw out certain things. I'm sure most of you have read the books, but have you ever READ them? As in, gone through them and picked through them with a fine toothed comb? She herself admits to tons of foreshadowing hints people have not discovered to this date. I spent around months just with notebooks combing through the books, and asking questions. The timeline for the Potters death is a huge problem, with lots of gaping holes left there for a reason, same with several other prominent things. shrug I spent a months with nothing to do after a couple of surgeries and that's what kept me busy, rofl.

-To the several ppl mentioned Sirius being there a mistake, or him having two cores being overpowered: Keep quiet until you see how I play it, or else you'll just have to remove your foot from your mouth. Er.. I mean that in a nice way even though it sounds hateful. : ) You'll understand in a few chapts. (just be grateful I'm not one of those GOD Harry ppl )

Harry and Azkaban will happen, but it will not be in the immediate future. I have no intention of writing some quick cheap stunt where he goes just for the pain curse of Bella. Come on guys, there no way in hell Dumbles would let him go just for that, no matter what the other ten billion Azkaban stories would have you think : ) Trust me.. he'll go... and god will he have a reason to go, heh.

Sir Chris - I can't stand it when people write Voldie as a pure evil death machine. The man is not stupid, he simply could not be. Harry's sarcasm will increase, and I'm tempted to trust a few people to use as betas to help me. I mentioned in the last chapter I was scared of using them, as I got burned badly shrug but at least one person here I know of I'd trust with the full notes, lol.

Peter in a way is the last gift. I wouldn't get too caught on Sirius in Harry's mind though, talking to him, etc. I've seen fics like that that have gone from great to horrid, and um.. ... well lets just say again not all is as it appears.

-Umbridge and werewolves.. hmm sorry can't. But you'll fricking drool when you see what happens to poor ickle Ronny and Hermione.

Jarno - Let me tell you a story. When I was 16 I was dating the woman who I am currently married to. I was 220ish lbs, a wrestler, track runner, and I often went and played in the Varsity football practice as a center, simply out of boredom: in other words I could take an assbeating and dish one out just as well. She was 105 lbs - soaking wet. A stick of a girl. A girl who did not play sports, and would rather have her nails done then do anything physical.

A ex girlfriend of mine told her I'd cheated on her, showed her some picks that had taken place months before I met my girl/wife. Aforementioned girl/wife walked right up to me, and proceeded to beat the ever living crap out of me. I got two black eyes, a broken nose, and my privies so sore I couldn't sit down comfortably for a week. I didn't lay a hand on her out of fear what would happen if I did. She was mad, it gave her strength beyond imagine.

Now for the point behind that story:

Vernon just had his wife killed by a wizard, and directly blamed Harry. He flew into a blind rage after seeing the spell go out, and went even more nuts. If you've ever been the receiver of a rage fueled asswhipping you'd have no complaints over how I wrote that scene.

You also assume Harry KNOWS how to fight. He's managed to get away from Dudley for awhile, but he often got caught during "Harry hunting" and had his brains bashed in. As for his Quidditch training. He sits on his ass, flying a broom around, strength has nothing to do with it.. He's often described as thin, under grown from all his malnourishment. He's not even described as agile, he's basically just the right frame (SMALL), and willing to do what it takes to get the snitch.

Take care to note please I didn't just let him sit there and be beaten to a pulp, raped, etc like others do. I made him attempt a counter attack, which was promptly smashed, but at least he tried. Vernon is twice his size or more. Have YOU ever beaten down someone who was utterly pissed and twice your size? No. Harry being beaten, and the fact that ONLY Voldemort cared enough to act on it to prevent it, will change him a lot.

Anyone asking about the sword: Harrys not going to be a bad ass swordfighter, it's there for a reason, as an artifact. Don't worry he's not suddenly going to go all Zorro on you, I hate it when ppl do that and have him more of a swordfighter then a wizard, any sane wizard would vanish the sword, and own his ass, so I don't care for that plot device, sorry.

ShadowMagik: The sword IS excaliber, or a version of it anyway. When I said it is teh suck, I was saying, don't get too attached to it, or like it, because you will hate it later on if I do my job writing right.

Also, Percy as a DE is cliche, I know, but I honestly, Post OOTP, Pre-suck.. er I mean pre-HPB, he just screams the type of pureblood hat would follow Tom.

Sith Lord Abazaba: If I kept Fudge alive I couldn't do the fun stuff I'm doing to/with Umbridge!

RexMeino: On the forum, I had a great deal more dialogue and backstory in the conversation with Voldemort. I had him drop some bombs on Dumbledore's history, Snape, and himself, but I removed them from this revised to get on with the story faster, and I'm placing them spread out later on in the story. I didn't think Voldemort discovering Dumbledore's addiction that early on was a good idea either evil grin

Project Nemesis: Thank you for the corrections, I write this story using Voice Recognition software, so I often tell the story as I speak, instead of grammatically perfect. I'll try to catch more of them.

Short A/n: I've been overworked and sick lately, otherwise this would off been done earlier. I've often been having to make do with less then 4 hours a day to sleep, with what little internet time I did have done on PDAs, cellphones, and a work pc run by Nazi admins who allow nothing outside to be placed on the pc / Even then when I've had small bits of free time, I often was on overnight stays away from home with no usuable PC access, ug. This story is not abandoned, nor on hiatus, but the update schedule may be slack until late October, when my workload goes from around 80+ hours back down to it's normal 50ish.

I'd also like to welcome Dark Syaoran as my new Beta, and I will be beta'ing his fic, "Here I Come" When he gets it going fullspeed. He's seen my notes and the ending of this story, so he can attest to the disgusting twists I have, and the fact that I have indeed been working on this.

This marks the start of some of my cliche bashing, if you look for it you'll see it. I'll never abandon this till it's done, even if it does go dormant for a month or so due to my heavy work load. This is not as complete, nor as large as I want it, but I wanted to stick something out there to keep interest and let you all know I'm working on my notes. I won't be doing Super!Harry, there is a legitimate reason Private Drive happened, and don't worry Voldemort isn't OOC... think about it real hard about who he is and what house he was in in school and I think you'll catch on.
